Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a popular public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a web site with video and an online blog looking at the portrayals of gender roles in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in popular media. In her efforts to break down stereotypes related to women in popular media, she is also working on issues related the harassing women targeted by the media and others online. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements from a very young time. In 2009, when she was in university, she created her Feminist Frequency web site. It was a girl determined to make the series of videos on the internet to examine the gender roles in video games. But, she was the victim of online harassment. This attack was not enough to halt her. In fact, it made her more committed to being a feminist and a media critique. She is a recipient of several awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded several awards and founded Feminist Frequency, an educational non-profit that examines the way women are depicted in the popular culture stories.
