Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 1999) is an American actress and a singer. Her career spanned more 40 years. London was a torch-singer who was known for her soft, smooth vocals. She recorded more than 30 albums of standards and jazz between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was the recording of "Cry Me a River" which she introduced in her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her part as Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began in film in 1944, and included roles as the female lead in several westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and together with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. The album she released was her last studio album in 1969 but achieved continuing success playing the lead female character of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) in which she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband also produced the show.
