He has acted as Troels Hartmann (Copenhagen mayoral election candidate) in The Killing and [1] Charles Augustus Magnussen (third series of Sherlock) and the Russian president Viktor Petrov on Netflix's American House of Cards, and Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars Rebels. He received the Reumert Prize of Honour in 2011 at the age of 27. In 1995, he was admitted to the National Theatre School of Denmark. He was also a part of The Killing's drama series. After that, he appeared in Borgen III and Those Who Kill, which were both internationally popular Danish dramas. He was also a key role in an episode on BBC drama Sherlock which featured him as blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American television series House of Cards he played the President of Russia. In 2018, he was awarded an International Emmy Award for his character in the Danish TV drama Herrensveje. It was broadcast in the UK as Ride Upon the Storm in 2019.
